Environment
Action speaks louder than words
We all talk about wanting to limit our environmental footprint – but talk is cheap. At dnata UK however, our policy for a greener environment is focused at every level of the business. What we save in revenue, we are happy pass on those who need it most. What we save in energy and resources, we all benefit from.
Dedicated Quality and Environmental Officer
Our Quality & Environmental Officer not only ensures dnata UK is compliant with all government legislation, their role demonstrates our commitment to the greener initiatives we have already taken on board – as well as those we are continually striving to adopt.
‘Clean Vehicles Programme’
Not only have we invested in a modern transport fleet with lower emissions, we’ve gained the highest Platinum level within the BAA’s ‘Clean Vehicles Programme.’ It highlights our commitment to operating clean fuel and vehicles, our high standards of vehicle maintenance, driver training and awareness and our data and monitoring and policy reviews.
Reducing electricity usage
We’re cutting down on our lightbulb moments. How? With the possible introduction of Photo Voltaic power at our various sites (that means turning solar radiation in to direct current electricity) and a company-wide initiative to significantly reduce our electricity usage from energy suppliers.
Commitment to recycling
Working with Waste Management contractors, we’ve activated an effective recycling programme that goes far beyond recycling our waste paper. It’s part of a wider commitment to sending as little waste as possible to landfill.
All our waste wood (used equipment such as cargo pallets and spreader boards, is now either refurbished or recycled as wood chip whilst plastic sheeting is baled and sold for recycling. Income from this waste stream helps to offset the cost of the substantial investment we have made in all areas of waste recovery and handling. Our printer cartridges and other consumables are sold for recycling and the income donated to charities nominated by dnata UK staff.
‘Green’ deliveries and collections
By providing pick-up and delivery services for freight forwarders, we’re helping to reduce the carbon footprint of transport vehicles operating at major UK airports. That means few trucks on the road and less congestion around the cargo terminals.
Passing on the benefits
During our campaign to recycle laser and inkjet print cartridges, we’ve has been able to donate over £2,000 to charities including:
- Diabetes UK
- MacMillan Cancer Support
- ChildFlight
As well as supporting such good causes, this campaign also prevents such a high volume of cartridges going to landfill sites, where they can contaminate land and leak into waterways.
